OCC’s Marathon Man

OCC’s Ulen Neale is very near the completion of a huge challenge; one that he has named 12 in 12 in 12. Ulen has run his 11th marathon this year and he is planning to do one more before the year is out.

Ulen is dividing the funds he is raising through the marathons equally between Sobell House Hospice and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) Support.

There is no cure for PSC, which is a degenerative liver disease, but PSC Support helps those with the condition and their families, and supports on-going research into treatment. Sobell House offers the terminally ill a home-from-home environment and supplies care and dedication to those in need as well as invaluable support for their families.

Ulen has one final marathon to complete later this month (23rd December) in Portsmouth.

To raise money for Ulen’s 12 in 12 in 12 marathon challenge, Ulen has also organised a charity curry night on Thursday 20th December at Saffron in Summertown with entertainment by the Mamma Mias, an ABBA tribute group.

OCC’s Conference Season

OCC has been extremely busy during the conference season promoting our contract management and financial assessment management product, ContrOCC.

Nick Warner and Damian Payne were at the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) Information Management Conference held at the Hotel Russell, Bloomsbury, in October.

Later the same month, Damian Payne, Chris Smith and Keith Musson represented OCC at the National Association of Financial Assessment Officers (NAFAO) meeting at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel, Birmingham, where Damian demonstrated the new ContrOCC Self-directed Online Financial Assessment module (SOFA).

Also in October, OCC attended the National Children and Adult Services Conference (NCASC) 2012 at the Devonshire Park Centre in Eastbourne as LiquidLogic’s partner in integrated case management and finance systems for children’s and adults’ social care. It was an opportunity for OCC to meet up with old friends and make some new ones, and chat with any number of interesting people about the challenges of social care finance.

ContrOCC User Group Meetings – May 2012

We were delighted to welcome representatives from some 25 Local Authorities to Oxford this May for two more successful and enjoyable User Groups for ContrOCC , our complete contract management and financial assessment solution for social services.

The meetings, one for the Children’s system and one for the Adults’, took place just down the road from our offices at Trinity College. Trinity has some of the most beautiful gardens and buildings in Oxford, and it provided us with a stunning backdrop and equally stunning weather – you could almost believe summer was here at last.

  

Inside, it was two busy days presenting recent product enhancements and discussing upcoming functional and legislative changes.

As always, we encouraged our users to drive the agenda, and they took it to some expected and less expected places. This year’s hot topics turned out to be reporting, implementation, online assessments, and, not for the first time, personalisation.

Attendees emphasized how much they valued the opportunity to learn from each others’ experience, and to facilitate this we have set up a ContrOCC Social forum. This will allow our users to share their thoughts with each other and with us between User Groups.

 

Oxfordshire Young Enterprise County Finals

OCC are very proud to continue our support of Young Enterprise in Oxfordshire. Young Enterprise is the United Kingdom’s largest business and enterprise education charity. Every year they help 250,000 young people learn about business and the world of work in the classroom under the guidance of volunteers from 3,500 companies.

This year saw 550 young people aged 15 to 19+ set up 43 teams/companies, from 35 schools and colleges from across the county take part in the Young Enterprise Oxfordshire County Finals, on the 3rd May 2012. The contest enables youngsters to form companies, come up with business ideas, and then bring their product to market.

Congratulations to all this year’s finalist and winners, especially to Team Dimension form Oxford Spires Academy, winners of The Oxford Computer Consultants Award for the best use of online media, who really harnessed the power of YouTube and created a memorable piece of marketing.

International Congress on Telehealth and Telecare

OCC represented Cupid for the International Congress on Telehealth and Telecare at the Kings Fund on 7-8 March.

There was a lot of interest in the results from the Whole System Demonstrator which has established the benefits of telemedicine for chronic diseases. The European Commission was directly represented by speakers from the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing. Cupid built links with two other FP7 projects, Chronious and inCasa.

OCC loves CuPiD

Telemedicine is the use of telecommunication and information technologies in order to provide health care at a distance. Here at OCC we are involved in a number of telemedicine projects around Parkinson’s disease and the latest is CuPiD.

Part funded by the European Union (FP7/2007-2013), the CuPiD project is developing and field testing home rehabilitation services for the major motor disabilities caused by Parkinson’s disease. OCC is responsible for transforming these services into telemedicine services; available in the home with remote supervision from a clinician. OCC is also responsible for integrating this system into Electronic Patient Records and systems for procuring health and social care services.

OCC donates PCs to homeless charity for internet cafe

OCC have donated some of our old PCs to help Shepherd’s View set up an internet café to help support their residents.

First Housing is the Shepherd’s View service that focuses on helping young parents by providing a supportive environment, helping them develop their skills and self-confidence as parents and as individuals. Shepherds View work in partnership with parents and children, developing supportive relationships based on mutual respect and openness and offering a range of support to young parents so they can return to their community of choice. To help with their work First Housing use OCC’s PSOCC software.

As part of Shepherds View service development they wished to set up an internet café so the residents they support could access the internet and develop their computing skills.  To help with this project OCC have donated our older PCs for use in the internet café.

New look PSOCC being rolled out to service providers

PSOCC V2.2  is now rolling out to OCC’s PSOCC users.

The new look PSOCC improves the way support providers can securely share information and workloads.

New reports let users more clearly see the support that’s needed and the outcomes achieved.

The improved screen layouts provide the adaptability needed by new commissioners whilst retaining the integrated SP reporting still required by some LAs.

PSOCC is one product in OCC’s range of software solutions designed for the Support Providers, enabling them to utilise their information to improve management, satisfy audit inspections and support their applications for new contracts and reducing the reporting overheads required of SP services.

Predictive Asset Management Conference

OCC’s Reynold Greenlaw is one of the speakers at a panel discussion on the 2nd day: “Strategies and predictive applications to minimise CAPEX and OPEX”.
